Fingerprints for text and files

A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint: change one character and the whole thing changes. Compare a downloaded file's SHA-256 with the one the publisher lists to be sure it hasn't been tampered with.

Type text or choose a file — even large files are hashed on your device, never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 for checksums and integrity checks. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security but still common for quick file comparisons.

Can I hash passwords with this?

Don't store passwords as plain hashes — use a slow algorithm like bcrypt or Argon2 on your server.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript — nothing you type or open is sent to our servers.
